For the past year, almost to the day, Kathrynn Duine Dóiteán has been dreaming of the medieval life of a queen. She has seen many things about this queen's life, including monsters, people with the power to control the elements, castles, fancy clothes, and a seemingly faceless king. But on her 17th birthday, Kathrynn wakes up from a dream much different from the others. In this one, the queen is murdered by a dark, unknown figure. Even more surprising is that this vivid dream ends up leaving something behind. A ring. Along with this ring, Kathrynn also finds something else in her awakened state. The mysterious king from her dream.

Waking up with newfound powers, a ring that she's never seen before, and this new guy in her life, Kathrynn has to piece everything together. Where these powers came from, why she has them, how her family is involved (if at all), how this mysterious guy fits into everything, and where to go from here. With family drama and worrying about learning how to control her powers, there is also the added threat of someone following her and threatening to take her from everything she knows. Is this person connected to the world in her dreams? Are there more family secrets that could shed light on why she's being targeted? And, most importantly, will she survive everything that's coming her way?
