Author Interview:
What part of the book was the most fun to write?
I loved the Trials, getting to create different creatures was a lot of fun, and anytime Cleo and Azel get into it was always my favorite as well.
Which of the characters do you relate to the most and why?
I would say Cleo due to her journey of self-love. She openly admits to not being able to love herself and I think that is a personal journey that I have been on.
If you’re planning a sequel, can you share a tiny bit about your plans for it?
This will be a trilogy! The next book Trials of Betrayal is in the works! So hopefully coming soon!
What inspired the idea for your book?
I was watching Moon Knight and fell in love with Egyptian mythology, I started doing research that lead to me wanting to write a book inspired by the mythology. I wanted to write a book with an epic adventure and the seven deadly sins.
What was your hardest scene to write, and why?
Chapter 48. DV is a hard topic but one I wanted to put in the book. Someone close to me had a horrible experience and told me they felt stupid for always going back, I wanted to show them that even the strongest can fall victim to DV, and they keep going back…until they snap.
How did you come up with the title for your book?
It started with the title A Land of Trials and Shadow, but I felt the Blank of Blank and Blank was being overused and wanted something unique and catchy, as the Trials are called the Trials of Ilithia, I thought it was the perfect name.
Would you and your main character get along?
Honestly, I think I would annoy her. I think she would simply not look my way, maybe later in the book but not in the beginning, I think she is too serious in the start of the book, and I am someone that makes jokes when I’m uncomfortable.
If you could meet your characters, what would you say to them?
I would tell Cleo that she deserves love, self-love and real love. and I would tell her to cross the wall.
For Azel, I would tell him that he needs to turn his butt back around and get his woman.
For Omari, I would give him the middle finger.
For Masud, I just want to hug him.
